The seed companies tend to hype-up many of the ‘fantastic’ new varieties some agricultural firms promote, but be cautious here. Yes, they might produce well, look great and have excellent disease resistance, but remember that many of the newer seeds are for commercial farmers, whose objectives are different than those of home gardeners. We grow food for good taste, but commercial organizations sometimes rank taste at the lower end of required characteristics. They normally want their crops to all mature at the same time, so it can be mechanically picked, good insect resistance, and long shelf life. Our attitude is to occasionally try one new variety and see what happens.
