Traditional Favorites

Every year we grow some of our traditional favorite vegetables, if for no other reason than habit, and they always seem to do well. This seems to be the attitude of most gardeners we have spoken with, and the general consensus is to stick with what works and grows well and try a new variety every so often. Some gardeners like to try one new variety (that is, one new type or mutation) each year, just to see what happens. The seed companies are always trying to improve on the traditional favorite seeds, and sometimes they are successful. The best way to determine what vegetables are traditional favorites, and which ones grow well in your area of the nation, is to attend garden classes sponsored by your local county extension, university or garden club, and ask the established gardeners what varieties they traditionally plant. They will always be happy to tell you and will also lead you to the best seed sources.
