Planting Seeds
Planting seeds is more risky than planting transplants, because if the conditions are not right for germination, young seedling growth and root development, you will lose the seeds. Ask farmers about planting seeds, and they will tell you everything there is to know about the subject. Farmers constantly spend their time gauging the weather, wind and forecast data to determine what seeds to plant and when exactly to plant them. Even with all of their skill and knowledge, they still lose some crops. But probably the biggest mistake beginners make is to plant too early. What we might suggest you do is this: instead of planting the entire crop all on one date, plant part of it one week, another part the next, and so forth. Farmers cannot really do this because they must harvest the entire crop using machines. But home gardeners can plant week by week, and if you lose one part of the crop, you can sometimes replant it later and still get a good crop by the fall frost.
