Scarecrow Pin

Materials Needed: Off white cotton fabric (about 2 1/2” x 4 1/2”) Polyester fiberfill Off white thread Raffia Straw hat, 1 1/2” Scrap fabric (about 8” x 1”) 1” pin back Black & brown fabric paint Fine tip black pen or ultra fine Sharpie Face powder blush Hot glue gun Compass Pencil Needle Scissors Exacto knife Fine paintbrushes

Instructions:

1) Cut two 2” circles out of off white cotton fabric. Align circles on top of each other. Sew 1/4” from edge of circles allowing about a 3/4” opening for stuffing. Turn inside out and stuff with fiberfill (using the end of a pencil will help push fiberfill into head). Tuck open edges inside and sew opening shut. See illustration A.

2) Onto one side of head, paint eyes and nose on face. With Sharpie, draw smile onto face. Apply a little blush on the cheeks. See illustration B.

3) Cut about 8 stands of raffia about 4” long. Twist in center of raffia and glue on top and along sides of head along seam as shown in illustration C.

4) Cut straw hat in half with an Exacto knife. Cut several pieces of raffia into 1/2” pieces and glue onto inside opening of one hat half. Glue hat on top of head as shown in illustration D.

5) Take scrap piece of fabric and tie into a bow and glue onto bottom portion of head. Trim bow ends at a diagonal. See illustration E.

6) Glue pin on back of head as shown in illustration F.
