Floating Row Cover Supports*

Floating Row Cover Supports

Materials Needed:

2 pieces 1/2” conduit 48” long
3/4” wooden dowel
3/4” thick wood about 3 1/2” x 14”
3/4” wide garden hose about 24” long
Floating row cover
Polyurethane glue
Tube bender
Permanent marker
Saw
Drill and 3/4” drill bit
Outdoor paint (optional)
Brush
Box knife

*Instructions are for two supports, additional supports may need to be made to hold up floating row cover over plants.

Instructions:

1) With permanent marker, mark both conduits as shown in illustration A.

2) Line up the marks on the conduit to the arrows on the bending tool and bend each conduit as shown in illustration B.

3) Cut 3/4” thick wood into four 3 1/2” x 3 1/2” pieces. Drill a 3/4” hole in the center of each block. Glue 4” from ends of tubing as shown in illustration C.

4) Cut 4 pieces of dowel 4” long and whittle the end to a point with a knife or saw. Insert flat end of dowel half way into ends of conduit and glue in place. After the glue has set, paint all the wooden pieces with outdoor paint.

5) To attach floating row cover onto supports, cut 4 pieces of hose 6” long. Slit each piece down the middle with a box knife as shown in illustration D.

6) Push ends of supports into the ground, lay floating row cover over the supports and attach with hose pieces as shown in illustration E.
