Materials Needed: |
Preparation:
Cut two rectangles, one measuring 15” x 24” and the other 13” x 2 1/2” out of the cotton material. See illustration A. Cut two pieces of elastic 10” long.
Assembly:
1) The bag: (Large piece of material) With wrong sides of material facing each other, line up the two long edges of the material and stitch together the edges with a 1/2” seam allowance. Press seam open.
2) Casing for elastic: Fold ends under a 1/4-inch and then press. Fold again a 1/2” and press. Sew close to edge of last fold leaving a 1/2” opening to allow for elastic to be inserted. See illustration B.
3) Pin one end of elastic close to opening. Attach a safety pin on opposite end of elastic. Insert safety pin and elastic into opening, working the elastic through the casing until it comes out from where it started. See illustration C. Remove safety pin and straight pin, line up ends of elastic and sew the two ends together. Stitch casing opening close. (Repeat to other end of bag) Turn bag right side of material out.
4) The hanger: (Smaller piece of material) Fold both long edges a 1/4” and press with an iron. Fold material in half, line up pressed edges and press with iron. Stitch both pressed edges together close to edge. Turn short ends 1/2” inside and press. See illustration D.
5) Line up the short edges of the hanger and sew the hanger to the top of the bag on the outside of the bag seam as shown in illustration E.
